Trinity was formally recognized as a worshiping community on September, 14th 1863. In October of 1863 Bishop McCoskry of the Diocese of Michigan visited and a formal letter of invitation was sent to the Rev. Voltaire Spalding to be the first Rector (pastor) of Trinity. In 1867 our church building was constructed. The building has had updates and renovations through the years it still bears much of its original look and history. In 1874 Trinity became part of the Diocese of Western Michigan.

Around 1880 difficult times came to Trinity. The congregation had dwindled and without a regular Rector the church building was rented out to other denominations including a local Baptist worshiping community. In 1884 Bishop Gillespie announced he would visit Trinity. Members took time to clean the building, repair windows, install new carpet, and redo the parish library. By 1893 the parish was revived though periods of growth and decline followed.

During the years of WWI and WWII Trinity began to grow with a strong emphasis on discipleship. Membership increased, the building received more renovations and updates, and steady leadership ensured regular pastoral care and ministry. In 1946 St. Gregory Abbey, a community of Episcopalian Benedictine Monks, moved to Three Rivers from Indiana. The Monks provided a steady support of spiritualty, faith formation, and in times when clergy were unavailable, provided for worship services.

In 1963 Trinity celebrated it’s centennial. As part of the celebrations the Holy Trinity window, which is located behind the altar area, was blessed and dedicated. In the 1970’s new stained glass windows featuring the seven sacraments and saints were installed in the church. In 1988 Trinity celebrated 125 years and build and dedicated our Parish Hall. In 2013 Trinity celebrated it’s 150th birthday. Today Trinity seeks to celebrate our history as we move into the future with our mission to serve our community in the name of Jesus as we are nourished by him in worship.
